A man drowned while swimming and tubing with friends in Hyco Lake in Person County Saturday evening, Sheriff Dewey Jones said.

<b>ROXBORO, N.C.</b> — A man drowned while swimming and tubing with friends in Hyco Lake in Person County Saturday evening, Sheriff Dewey Jones said.

Daniel Hopkins, 29, of Graham, fell off his tube around 6:30 p.m. and was seen swimming for a bit, then went under the water, Jones said. Witnesses tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

Crews recovered Hopkins' body around 2:30 a.m.

Jones said that deputies got reports that Hopkins might have been drinking and are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
