Man drowns in Jordan Lake
A 46-year-old man drowned in the Poplar Point Park area of Jordan Lake on Saturday, park officials said.
Posted — UpdatedWildlife officials said Edmund Phillip McKibbin and two friends were staying at the Poplar Point campground. They took a boat out on Jordan Lake and anchored in about 15 feet from shore in water between 7 and 15 feet deep.
The two other campers told authorities that they were swimming when they heard a splash. They never saw McKibbin resurface, officials said.
Dive teams and emergency medical workers responded to calls about the drowning around 11:30 a.m. and searched the lake for hours.
McKibbin's body was recovered and has been sent to the Office of the State Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill.
