DURHAM, N.C. — A man died in a motorcycle accident in Durham on Friday that happened at around 11 p.m. His wife, who was on the motorcycle with him, is now in critical condition, according to officials.

Michael Worsman, from Durham, and his wife Annie Worsman were on a motorcycle stopped at the intersection of Fayetteville Road and Stratford Lakes Drive when they were rear-ended by the driver of a Honda Accord, officials said.

Officials say that the Honda's driver, Timothy Long, 26, from Durham, was traveling south on Fayetteville Road when he hit the couple.

Michael Worsman was pronounced dead after he was transported to Duke University Hospital. His wife, 31, is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Long was cited for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a vehicle. He was released from the scene, officials said.

Officials said that "alcohol was a factor" in the crash.

Long and his passenger did not receive any reported injuries, according to officials.

The crash still remains under investigation, according to Durham police, and no other details were released to the public at this time.
