Man dies in Moore County crash

Pinehurst, N.C. — A Southern Pines man died after a near head-on collision in Pinehurst on Monday night. Around 10:30 p.m., officials responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 15-501 near Spring Lake Drive.
At the scene, officials located a Nissan Frontier pickup overturned in the middle of the roadway and a Mazda CX9 off the side of the road into a dirt bank.
The driver of the Nissan, identified by authorities as 47-year-old Lannie Scott Stancil of Southern Pines, died at the scene.
A woman and a child from the Mazda were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with injuries reported as non-life-threatening.
U.S. Highway 15-501 was blocked to traffic in both directions until just before midnight while the accident was investigated and the debris were removed from the roadway. The crash is under investigation by the Pinehurst Police Department.
