ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Authorities are searching for the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Rocky Mount last month.

At approximately 10:20 a.m. on April 11, the Rocky Mount Police Department received a call about a man lying in the ditch in the 1500 block of North Wesleyan Boulevard in Rocky Mount.

Matthew Pender, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video from security cameras in the area showed a Smart car traveling in the area the night of the crash, and investigators said it could be the vehicle that struck and killed Pender.

Headlight fragments recovered at the scene came from a white or silver 2007-2016 Smart Fortwo, police said.

Investigators said the car involved in the hit-and-run would have damage to the passenger-side headlight and possibly the hood and the roof support on the side of the windshield.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1411 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111 or text RMPOL and your message to CRIMES (274637).
