RALEIGH, N.C. — A 19-year-old man died after being shot while walking out of a Food Lion grocery store Monday night off Poole Road in Raleigh.

Kevin Hart, 19, was charged with murder in connection to the death of 19-year-old Trashawn Watkins.

Police said Watkins was leaving the store around 10:15 p.m. when someone in a white car pulled up and shot him at least once in the chest before driving away.

Kevin Hart, 19, was charged with murder in connection to the death of 19-year-old Trashawn Watkins.

A woman who called 911 pleaded for help as she implored Watkins to breathe.

"Oh my God, please help him," the woman sobbed. "What am I going to tell his mama?"

Another woman told a 911 operator that she heard five or six shots while waiting in the drive-thru at a nearby McDonald's.

"I'm pretty sure, with that many shots, somebody over there needs help," she said. "I heard shots. I hit the gas. I didn't even get the food."

Watkins was taken to WakeMed for treatment, but police announced at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday that he had died from his wounds.

Anyone with information that might help the investigation is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP or visit raleighcrimestoppers.org.
