Man dead, woman hurt in Rocky Mount shooting

A man is dead and a woman was injured after a shooting in Rocky Mount, authorities said.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police were searching for clues after a man was killed and a woman was injured during an overnight shooting, authorities said.

Officers were called to Long Avenue around 1 a.m. Friday because of a gunshot detection system, according to a post by the department on its Facebook page.

When they arrived, officers found the body of Dequan Xavier Dickens, 18, of Rocky Mount. He had been shot several times, police said.

Khadigah Rashonna Lineberger, also suffered a gunshot wound. She was taken to a Greenville hospital for treatment, but her condition was not immediately disclosed.
