CASTALIA, N.C. — One person died from an explosion in Nash County on Monday.

Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said a man was filling up a liquefied petroleum gas tank when the tank exploded around 11 a.m.

Francis Earl Johnson Jr. of Louisburg was killed. The Nash County Sheriff's Office said part of the tank hit Johnson, leading to the 28-year-old's death. Johnson was an employee of L.H. Dickens & Son, a Louisburg-based gas company, and filling tanks for a farmer at the time of the blast.

The explosion occurred at a tobacco farm along Red Bud Road in Castalia. Sky 5 flew over the scene.

Authorities believe there was no foul play involved.
