FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville teen was charged Wednesday following a stabbing death at his home, police said.

Christopher Jay Smith Jr., 18, of the 700 block of Maxine Street, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond in the Cumberland County jail.

Fayetteville police responded to Smith's home at about 2 a.m. to investigate the report of a stabbing. Although officers found evidence that "a serious injury had occurred on the property," no one was in the home, police said.

The officers then went to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where dispatchers said they were treating a man who had been stabbed. The man, identified as Samuel Darnell Wallace, 32, of Spring Lake, died at the hospital.
