LUMBERTON, N.C. — A 19-year-old who was injured in a shooting in Lumberton early Saturday has died, authorities said.

Marvin Strickland, 19, of Maxton, died Saturday after being found with a gunshot wound around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, said Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the Saddletree Community Center, on Mount Olive Church Road in Lumberton, and found Strickland.

Officials said a fight had started between two groups attending a party when the shooting occurred.

“This is another senseless murder due to the actions of a few that thinks guns are the answer to all problems," Wilkins said. "We are faced with another incident in which several young people are shooting guns with no concern for human life or care for where a bullet may land.

"These barbaric cowardly actions must stop and we are seeking suspects to hold accountable. If you were at the scene of this murder whether you were involved or not, I suggest you call our office now."

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Criminal Investigation Divisions are investigation the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 671-3170 or (910) 671-3100.
