CLAYTON, N.C. — A man accidentally drove his pickup truck into the waiting room of a doctor’s office in Clayton on Thursday morning.

A spokeswoman with the town said the driver, 71-year-old Billy Parris of Clayton, plowed into Horizon Family Medicine at 236 Butternut Lane.

A man in the waiting room heard the crash and jumped out of the way, but he was taken to Johnston Medical Center to be checked for possible injuries.

Parris, who was unhurt, will be cited with unsafe driving, according to the spokeswoman.

Parris told WRAL News that he was pulling into a parallel parking space when his foot slid off the brake and hit the gas. He said he wears an ankle brace, which got stuck between both pedals when his foot slipped.

Parris said he's worn the brace for six years without incident.
