GARNER, N.C. — Police on Thursday charged a Raleigh man with inappropriately touching a child at a crowded Walmart store in Garner last month.

Mark Anthony Canary, 42,of 740 Bashford Road, was charged with one count each of indecent liberties with a child, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and indecent exposure.

Police said Canary exposed his genitals to a 7-year-old girl inside the Garner Walmart on Dec. 20 and also tried to commit "a lewd and lascivious act" on the girl, according to an arrest warrant.

Garner investigators searched Canary's house and found child pornography, leading to the sexual exploitation charges, police said. An arrest warrant states that a 9-year-old girl was involved.

Police seized a laptop computer, videotapes, a digital camera and a photo printer from Canary's house, according to a search warrant.

Canary was being held in the Wake County jail under a $1 million bond.
