FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been charged in a shooting last weekend that seriously wounded another man, authorities said Friday.

Thurman Doral Matthews, 41, of 2649 Cameron Woods Lane, was charged with attempted second-degree murder. He was released from jail on a $1 million unsecured bond.

Deputies went to Matthews' home last Sunday for what was believed to be a breaking and entering in progress. When they arrived, they found Willie Lewis Ray II, 35, of 2905 Dwell Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, authorities said.

Ray was transported via helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he was listed in serious condition.

Detectives said the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute between Matthews and Ray, who is the former husband of Matthews’ wife.
