Man charged with murder as 1 of 2 shot in New Bern dies from injuries

A double shooting in New Bern led to one person's death and left another person in critical condition on Tuesday morning. Hours later, police arrested a 19-year-old from Vanceboro in connection with the case.

NEW BERN, N.C. — A double shooting in New Bern led to one person's death and left another person in critical condition on Tuesday morning. Hours later, police arrested a 19-year-old from Vanceboro in connection with the case.

Dakota Wright was charged with murder as 23-year-old Jordan McDaniels died from his injuries. Jaheem McDaniels was also shot and is in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville as of Tuesday afternoon.

The two men were shot in downtown New Bern in front of the Craven County Courthouse. Police said the shooting was not random.

Wright was charged with one count of murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of attempted murder.

Police said there was some prior interaction between the gunman and the victims. Wright was placed in the Craven County Jail with no bond. Wright will appear in court on Wednesday.
