Man charged with hit-and-run in Durham crash
A 25-year-old man suffered serious head injuries Saturday evening after crashing into a digital highway sign on Interstate 40 near the Page Road exit and then hitting a vehicle in the far left lane.

Caesar Antonio Garcia Hernandez, 311 South LaSalle St., was driving a 1995 Saturn when he crashed, police said. The same car was involved in a hit-and-run 30 minutes earlier near the intersection of Holloway Street and Miami Boulevard, according to Durham police.
The car is owned by Manuel de Jesus Guillen Cruz of Park Avenue in Durham, police said.
Hernandez took the Page Road exit around 5 p.m. and then tried to merge back on the highway. He struck a highway sign and then crossed the eastbound lanes of I-40 and hit a Chevrolet Impala in the far left lane, police said.
The Impala, driven by Frank Lackey of Statesville, came to rest against the Jersey barriers in the median. The Saturn also came to rest on the shoulder near the Jersey barrier.
Emergency crews took Hernandez to Duke University Hospital for treatment of serious head injuries. He was released Sunday. Lackey and three passengers in his vehicle were not injured, police said.
Police charged Hernandez with felonious hit-and-run and driving without a license.
Hernandez was being held Sunday in the Durham County Jail under a $10,000 bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
