Man charged in fatal stabbing near Raleigh motel

A man wanted in a fatal stabbing near a Raleigh motel early Friday was apprehended Friday evening, police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A man wanted in a fatal stabbing near a Raleigh motel early Friday was apprehended Friday evening, police said.

Raleigh police received a call about the stabbing near the Wake Inn, at 3120 New Bern Ave., at 3 a.m.

"Someone came up to my window and said call an ambulance," someone staying at the motel told a 911 dispatcher. "There’s blood on my window."

Luis Miranda, 52, was taken to WakeMed Hospital, where he died.

Police named Ernest Dennis Brown, 43, of 312 Tryon Road in Raleigh, a suspect Miranda's death by Friday afternoon. He was in custody by 6:30 p.m., charged with murder and larceny of a motor vehicle.

A crime scene at Holston Lane was connected to the stabbing, police said. A K-9 unit was searching the area, and a tow truck removed a damaged vehicle.
