GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro police charged a man on New Year's Day with attempted murder for the shooting of a woman in September.

Derrick Raymont Best, 27, was also charged three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.

Investigators say that Best shot Alica Griffin in the 1700 block of Maple Street on Sept. 24, 2008.

Best has been convicted of crimes at least 13 times in Wayne County since 1998, including possession of a firearm by a felon, assault on a female, resisting an officer, affray and drug possession, according to DOC records.
