A Jackson Springs man has been charged in connection with an assault on a child that happened Sunday in Southern Pines.

<b>SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.</b> — A Jackson Springs man has been charged in connection with an assault on a child that happened Sunday in Southern Pines.

Southern Pines police said Tuesday that Shaquille Damon Jones, 18, is charged with with felony assault inflicting physical injury by strangulation, misdemeanor assault on a child under 12, misdemeanor injury to real property and misdemeanor assault on a female.

The arrest stemmed from an incident that happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Shaw Ave. Police did not provide details about the incident but said Jones was arrested a short time later on Richards Street.

Jones was held in the Moore County jail on $15,000 bond. He has a court appearance Thursday
