FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man has been arrested and is facing charges in connection with the defacing of a monument that stood near a historic black church in Fayetteville, authorities said.

Andrew Caldwell has been charged with ethnic intimidation for allegedly defacing a monument behind Evans Metropolitan AME Zion Church, located at 301 N. Cool Spring St. He was released after posting a $500 unsecured bond.

He is expected to return to court on Nov. 13.
