Man arrested in fatal shooting in Durham

On July 28, Ayinde Samori Asante Melvin was taken into custody in connection with a homicide that occurred in June.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police have taken a Durham man into custody in connection with a homicide that occurred in June.

On July 28, Ayinde Samori Asante Melvin was taken into custody related to a fatal shooting.

On June 10, Durham officers responded to a shooting call on Miosha Street near North Roxboro Street. Officers found 35-year-old Kenneth Hawley had been shot. Hawley later died at the hospital.

Melvin is charged with first degree murder and is being held at the Durham County Jail without bond.

Melvin was also served on an unrelated, outstanding warrant for cyberstalking.
