DURHAM, N.C. — Police arrested a man Thursday who was wanted in a fatal July drive-by shooting.

John Flowers Jr., 28, of East Club Boulevard, was charged with murder in the July 1 shooting death of Darraies McClain, 26, on Cheek Road near Midland Terrace.

Flowers was arrested Thursday evening in Timberlake by the Person County Sheriff's Office. The arrest was the result of a tip to Durham CrimeStoppers, police said.

McClain and his girlfriend had stopped on Cheek Road for a red light at Midland Terrace when a sport utility vehicle pulled up next to them in the turn lane and an occupant in the back seat leaned out the window and opened fired, police said. McClain was shot at least once in the side, and he died at Durham Regional Hospital.

Flowers was the second person charged in the case. Two weeks ago, Lamont Charles Johnson, 27, of Gurley Street, was arrested and charged with murder in McClain's death.
