DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police on Wednesday night arrested a 19-year-old man wanted in two recent robberies in the Oxford Commons area of North Roxboro Road.

Officers on bike patrol on Danube Lane spotted and arrested Carl Suitt Jr., of Craven Street.

Suitt faces three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count each of second-degree rape and felony conspiracy. He was being held in the Durham County Jail Thursday under an $802,000 bond.

Police said they believe that Suitt took part in the following robberies:

  • July 30, 2009 – Two men were walking in the 3500 block of Roxboro Road when three men on bicycles approached them, robbed them at gunpoint and took beer, jewelry and cell phones.
  • Aug. 2, 2009 – Two armed men entered the King Buffet restaurant in Oxford Commons and took money from the cash register and tip jar.
Fabian Thorpe, 25, of Danube Lane, was arrested earlier in connection with the Aug. 2 robbery.

According to state Department of Correction records, Suitt was placed on probation July 8 for carrying a concealed weapon. DOC records show he has previous convictions including larceny.
