Man arrested in 11-year-old's shooting

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man accused of shooting into an occupied apartment striking an 11-year-old was arrested Friday night, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Michael Wayne Hutchison Jr., 20, faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the shooting at 201-103 Lightner Lane this past Saturday.

The 11-year-old was asleep in the residence when a bullet struck him in the right arm. He was treated at WakeMed for non-life-threatening injuries.

Hutchison was arrested at 2113 Lawrence Road without incident, Sughrue said in a release.

According to state Department of Correction records, Hutchison served four months in jail in 2008 after his probation was revoked in Wake County. In 2006 and 2007, he was placed on probation for felony breaking-and-entering, driving while impaired and drug offenses in Richmond, Moore and Scotland counties.
