Man arrested for two Raleigh bank robberies

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh Police charged a man with robbery of two area banks Thursday.

Tommy Aggie Covington, 41, faces two counts of armed robbery in connection with the July 18 robbery of the Mechanics and Farmers Bank at 13 East Hargett St. and the July 22 robbery of the First Citizens Bank at 2001 Fairview Road.

Covington was also charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of possession of stolen goods, one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and one count of possession of cocaine.

Covington was being held Thursday evening on $360,000 bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
