WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a suspected road rage incident near Rolesville.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said shots were fired, eventually prompting an arrest at the intersection of Zebulon Road and U.S. Highway 401. Just after 8:30 a.m., deputies got a call of gunshots in the area.

John Davis of Spring Hope was arrested. Brandon Jones told authorities he was driving down U.S. 401 when he merged in front of Davis' vehicle. Witnesses said both Jones and Davis exchanged words briefly at the stoplight. After the light turned green, Davis fired a gun once into the pavement and once toward the Jones' vehicle, authorities said.

Jones told WRAL News that Davis pulled up beside his truck, started yelling and eventually brought out a gun.

There were no injuries.

Davis, 38, dumped the gun and ammunition in a drain. Deputies contacted Davis by phone and told him to return to the scene. The gun and ammunition were recovered.

Davis was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.

WRAL was at the scene as authorities searched a vehicle belonging to a pressure washing and detailing company called “Team Savage.”
