ORRUM, N.C. — A Robeson County man has been arrested and charged in a 2011 murder that happened at a convenience store in 2011.

Emmanuel Travis Powers, 26, of Fairmont was arrested Wednesday by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office investigators. He was charged in the 2011 shooting death of Nathan Johnson, 22, of Orrum. Power is charged with first degree murder and is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.

Officials said they responded to a call at around 10 p.m. on June 30, 2011. Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Tommy’s Country Store at 522 Firetower Rd., in Orrum. When they arrived, they found Johnson lying at the front door of the store. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

Deputies said the shooting was a result of an altercation that occurred at the store.

“We are again pleased that the cold case team along with the Criminal Investigative Division and the District Attorney’s Office were able to reopen this case and bring a sense of closure to a grieving family," Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said. "We continue to ask for the public’s help on other cases such as this. Together we can make a difference in our county, but it takes the public working alongside of law enforcement."
