Man accused of shooting donkey in Apex arrested, sheriff says

A man accused of shooting a donkey multiple times in February is now in custody, according to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

APEX, N.C. — A man accused of shooting a donkey multiple times in February is now in custody, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

According to officials, Richard Nicholas “Nick” Blalock, 33, formerly of Clayton, is charged with felony animal cruelty after allegedly shooting a donkey named Cowboy in the Apex area last month.

Blalock is also charged with communicating threats to Cowboy’s owner, who discovered the injured animal in his stall the morning the shooting occurred.

Cowboy is currently recovering at N.C. State's Veterinary Hospital, officials said.
