FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man died Sunday morning after a shooting at a Fayetteville home.

Around 1:45 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a home in the 1900 block of Pavilion Drive.

Donovan Butler, 25, of Coinjock Circle, checked himself in to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and told health care workers he was shot at the home. He died later Sunday morning from his injuries.

An investigation revealed there was a large gathering at the home before the shooting, but police did not specify what kind of gathering.

According to state guidelines meant to enforce social distancing, groups over 10 or more people are not allowed, particularly groups of people who do not share the same household.

Additional information about the shooting will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting investigation is asked to contact Detective D. Smith with the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1901 or Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
