CARY, N.C. — A water main break has closed a downtown Cary intersection.

The intersection of Harrison Avenue and Dry Avenue, near the Cary Arts Center and community fountain, could be closed through Thursday's evening commute, according to Town of Cary officials.

The closure could cause serious congestion for drivers who travel through downtown to get home from work.

Drivers should avoid the area or use Park Street, Academy Street and Faculty Avenue to detour.

The break comes a day after a car hit a fire hydrant near downtown Cary, damaging a water valve and closing High House Road near Old Apex Road and W. Chatham Street for most of Wednesday.
