Made by Mom Gift Guide: Tracey Gurley Bath and Body
Tracey Gurley researched and began creating natural products to help sooth her newborn daughter's eczema twelve years ago. That research eventually turned into her line of all natural bath and body products.Posted — Updated
When Gurley's daughter Madison, now 12, was born, she suffered from eczema. But Gurley was reluctant to apply the cortisone cream the doctor recommended on her newborn's skin. So she started researching natural remedies. Soon she was bathing her baby in oatmeal baths with touches of lavender oil and using other oils to soothe her skin. It did the trick, Gurley tells me.
Gurley began giving away her handmade bath and body products as gifts. And, in May 2009, she began selling her products on Etsy.com.
"I thought why not make a go of it," she tells me.
Gurley's products are made entirely from scratch. There are no artificial fragrances, colors or pre-made bases. Many of her products, including her lip balms, are vegan. She uses clays, botanicals and flowers to color her products. And she doesn't even outsource her labels. Gurley, a painter, creates those too.
Gurley's Pink Peppermint line supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in honor of her mother, a breast cancer survivor, and in memory of her birth mother. A portion of the sales of the products, which include a soap, lip balm and body scrub, support the foundation.
And while I'll admit that our gift guide might not have a lot of offerings for the men in your life, Gurley might just have something. Her products include a sore muscle soak, Arnica balm for sore muscles and a soap made with beer.
Gurley's products range in price from about $1.25 to $15.
