Mothers Against Drunk Driving used a WRAL Investigates report about the lack of enforcement of drivers license restrictions as a springboard to request that state lawmakers increase penalties for DWI convictions.

MADD sent a letter to every member of the state General Assembly urging them to put a requirement for ignition locks for DWI offenders into law.

"Mothers Against Drunk Driving believes that this story shows the need for ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers as opposed to restricted licenses. Ignition interlocks are a more effective alternative to unenforceable and ineffective restricted licenses for convicted drunk drivers," the letter read.
