Lynda Loveland: And so it begins

I have three kids, ages 7, 5 and 3. So far, I’ve been able to avoid running all over God’s green earth chauffeuring them from practice to game to whatever.

I hear stories from parents all the time about practically living out of their minivan because of their kids extracurricular activities. If a child’s not involved in something by the time they’re 3, they’re never going to be good at anything, apparently.

Well I’m bucking that trend. I prefer eating a home cooked meal, together, going to the pool, together and playing at home, together. Plus my kids haven’t been begging me to participate. That’s just what works for my family.

Anyway, I’m afraid my homey little system is about to be up-ended. Starting next week, my two older kids start soccer practice. They’re on the Y league, which thankfully, the games and practices are within a stone’s throw from the homestead. I have to admit, I’m kinda excited they’re getting involved with team sports. But the thought of giving up two nights a week for practice and a Saturday for games, sort of dulls the excitement. The ball has started rolling and I’m afraid it’s only going to be picking up speed from here.

Any advice?
