Loose dog reportedly attacks multiple people near Hanscom Park

An Omaha boy who has the bite marks to prove it. "I was just thinking to run and get somewhere high," said Matthew Medellin. He was out walking with a friend Sunday when he says a Pitbull attacked him.

He tried to jump up on a truck to get away. "I was almost on but the Pitbull jumped and got a hold of my leg. It started biting my legs."

Ripping through his jeans the dog managed to get a couple deep punctures with its teeth. "It felt like a human biting me but even worse. 10 times worse."

Little did Matthew know a woman a few blocks away had just been saved by a neighbor after another vicious attack from the same dog. The attacks happened near 32nd and Vinton.

"I was going to die because they usually go for your necks," he told 6 News.

Matthew's attack was just feet from Mary Horn's house. "You know they say to always be big and loud and that so I just started yelling," she said. Yet again a neighbor would run to help the latest little attack victim. She scared the dog off. "You just can't help it. You see that happen and you want to help them."

Mary was able to contain the dog in a neighbor's fenced yard while she called Animal Control. "I thought I had them contained but I did not. The backyard is not fenced." The dog ran off before Animal Control could get there. "I just hope they find that dog for the sake of that little boy."

Matthew hand delivered a thank you letter to Mary for her help. He tells 6 News that he fears what could have happened if she didn't run to the rescue. "God bless. That's all I gotta say, because I could have been dead."

The Humane Society said the dog has been identified with a citation against the owners pending. Neighbors said the dog was taken from the area by animal control Wednesday evening.

Humane Society will quarantine the dog for about 10 days. If there are no signs of rabies then the attack victims won't normally require shots. The investigation is ongoing and it's not clear yet if the dog will be returned or put down.
