GARNER, N.C. — Changes are coming to busy interchange between Garner and Clayton.

The loop that takes drivers from eastbound U.S. Highway 70 Business to westbound Interstate 40 will shut down permanently Sunday night.

A new traffic pattern will create a left turn from U.S. 70.

The change is part of a project to widen I-40 for commuters coming from Johnston County.

The detour will take drivers around the closure and all of the construction by using Greenfield Parkway to U.S. 70, then to I-40.

The new traffic pattern is scheduled to be finished by Jan. 1.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation advises drivers to travel slowly around all of the construction.
