ATLANTA, GA — At just nine-years-old, Diana Romero's life is forever changed. No longer are the days of playing on the swing set or riding bikes with her four siblings outside their Loganville home.

Last week, Romero's mother, Isabel Martinez, allegedly stabbed her husband Martin Romero, 33, and children Isabel Martinez, 10, Dacota Romero, 7, Dillian Romero, 4, and Axel Romero, 2, to death.

Diana was the lone survivor.

When police responded to the scene, Diana was found with multiple stab wounds and rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in stable condition.

If any good news can come of this horrific crime, Diana is doing better. She has been awake and talking since Friday.

"She is surrounded by loving family members who are helping care for her," Gwinnett police said.

On Saturday, family members reported that her breathing tube was removed and said that she is "slowly and steadily improving."

Diana will have a long and hard road ahead of her but she will make it through, her cousin Hallie Romero said on the family's GoFundMe page.

More than $30,000 has been raised on the GoFundMe page -- funds that family members say will be used for funeral costs and medical bills.

"We are a strong and loving family who stand by each other and support one another," Hallie said.

Isabel Martinez remains in jail after a bizarre court appearance on Friday. Her next court appearance is on July 20.
