Man carrying BB gun prompted lockdown at North Johnston High School

A lockdown at North Johnston High School in Kenly was lifted Friday morning after a man carrying a BB gun was spotted near campus.

KENLY, N.C. — A lockdown at North Johnston High School in Kenly was lifted Friday morning after a man carrying a BB gun was spotted near campus.

According to officials, a staff member spotted a person carrying what looked like a rifle off-campus near the school before 7:30 a.m.

Officials said the person was walking with a bike on Watson Drive, which is located behind the school.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the gun was a BB gun and said the man was not a threat.

By 8:15 a.m., the lockdown was lifted, and operations had resumed.

A notification regarding what happened near the school was sent to parents.
