RALEIGH, N.C. — I literally died and went to pug heaven.

If you know me, even just a little bit, you know I am obsessed with my pug, Dazey (and still honor my late pug Dame Judi Dench) – both rescues. That’s why when I saw that Pawsitively Pugs Rescue was hosting a fundraiser complete with pug activities, I couldn’t *not* attend.

Between supporting the incredible local pet vendors, or admiring the cleverly adorable pug-themed ensembles attendees were sporting, I felt like the fembot in Austin Powers that malfunctions from being so overwhelmed.

To make it even more exciting, I spoke with Pawsitively Pugs Rescue founder, Renee Clarke, about her work with the organization. When she started the smushed-face haven less than five years ago, she “would have been happy to even save five pugs,” she said. Since opening their doors, they have saved and placed over 125 pugs in the Raleigh area.
Their annual fundraiser in November featured everything from pet portraits courtesy of local pet photographer Paws For Joy Photo, organic dog treats, costume contest complete with one pug who fell asleep on the runway (check out the video!), and a raffle to help support their efforts. This was their largest and most successful fundraiser to date – raising nearly $4,000 in just one day, and celebrating the community’s love for their four legged companions with nearly 400 attendees, and 60+ pugs!
As my brother-in-law so “kindly” put it, this entire event was like “stepping into Lucy’s brain.” Whitney Houston blasting, pug cuddles AND supporting an animal shelter and other small businesses? Yes please! Make sure to visit PawsitivelyPugsRescue.org to make a donation or find out about upcoming events!
