RALEIGH, N.C. — The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and other Triangle groups need help feeding hungry people over the holidays.

The food bank, which is anchored on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh but serves over 30 counties, has seen a nearly 40% increase in needs because of the pandemic.

To help raise money, donations made online through Dec. 31 will be doubled. According to the website, a donation of just $10 in November and December would help provide 100 meals for hungry families across the state.

Other organizations will ramp up their efforts over Thanksgiving too. The Raleigh Rescue Mission is providing 1,200 meals on Thanksgiving, and the Durham Rescue Mission will deliver 800 meals to hungry families.

In order to get the meals out, the Raleigh Rescue Mission is still looking for volunteers to help prepare the food the day before Thanksgiving. In Durham, donations of turkeys or hams are still needed.

Here's a list of how to help this holiday season:

Durham Rescue Mission: To help feed more families, donations of turkeys or hams are being accepted Tuesday at 1201 East Main St. or 507 East Knox St. You can also call 919-688-9641, extension 5025, to make a donation.
Raleigh Rescue Mission: At least six more volunteers are needed Wednesday night for the Turkey Meal Takeout event. Volunteers will meet in Raleigh at 6 p.m. to help pack food into individual food containers. You can email volunteer@raleighrescue.org to help.
Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC: Every online donation will be doubled through Dec. 31.
McDougald Terrace, a public housing community in Durham, has had a difficult year and needs around 150 turkeys for their residents. Contact Ashley C. at 919-806-7991 to make a donation or get more information.
Rocky Top Catering: For Thanksgiving week, Rocky Top Catering will distribute more than 6,000 free meals, including 2,000 whole pies, to families. You can make an online donation or volunteer to help distribute food.
