RALEIGH, N.C. — After a hot, sunny week with above-average temperatures, a cold front will deliver cooler air to central North Carolina.

It was noticeably cooler Friday with temperatures starting in the 30s, then highs only climbing into the upper 60s. Around 4 a.m., we were at 35 at RDU and 37 in Roxboro.

Saturday will be pleasant but a little unseasonably cool, as well, with temps climbing into the upper 60s, and perhaps nipping the 70-degree mark in some areas.

It will be a mostly-cloudy day, which will make it feel a little cooler than it actually is, according to meteorologist Mike Maze.

Saturday morning planner

Temperatures are not expected to get cold enough (or stay cold long enough) to harm spring and summer gardens, and at this point we are past the average last frost.

The next chance for rain comes Saturday afternoon and evening, but showers will be few and isolated.

"That 30% chance of rain Saturday will come late in the day and into the evening," Maze said.

The day will be mostly cloudy with highs in the 60s and some scattered rain possible. It will not be a washout and there should still be plenty of dry hours.

Sunday will be a dry but cloudy day with a high around 69 degrees.

Washing the car Sunday

Looking ahead to next week, there is a chance for rain Monday, but most days will be sunny. Temperatures will be warmer, in the 70s.

7-day forecast

Some pollen will continue to build this week, though it won't be as thick as last week. Cool lows in the 40s that move in Thursday through the weekend will help to decrease the pollen count.
