WALLACE, N.C. — A Lillington woman was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the Pender-Duplin County line Sunday evening, troopers said.

Troopers said a pickup truck overturned near Highway 117 around 6:30 p.m., killing 78-year-old Buelah Stone, of Lillington, who was in the passenger seat.

Her daughter, Connie Coalville, 56, also of Lillington, was driving the truck. She was taken to New Hanover Regional Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Sunday night.

Traffic was at a complete standstill for several hours while authorities responded to the scene of the wreck, and cars were backed up all the way to exit 342. Traffic resumed its normal flow Sunday night.

The cause of the wreck was still under investigation.
