RALEIGH, N.C. — Lightning sparked a house fire in Raleigh early Thursday, officials said.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. at a home on Springshire Court, off of Sunnybrook Road.

Four people were sleeping in the home at the time, including two girls.

One of the girls, a 15-year-old, woke up her parents, and all four people were able to escape safely.

A fire report listed lightning as the cause of the blaze

A neighbor said an intense storm was moving through when the fire broke out.

“When we heard a loud sound from the thunderstorm, shortly later some people started banging on our door, and they were telling us to come out,” the neighbor said. “I didn’t know what to do. I was confused, and I was shaking.”
