Light snow falls northwest of Triangle on Saturday
Some afternoon showers are possible in central North Carolina Saturday while the mountains could see snow.
Posted — Updated"Many of us may wake up below the freezing mark [Sunday] morning, and that may cause some slick spots on the road," WRAL meteorologist Zach Maloch said.
Highs Sunday should reach around 49 degrees, and they'll hover a degree or two above or below 50 degrees until Thursday, when things warm up even further into the mid 50s.
Dee McAuley sent WRAL News a photo of snow falling in Person County, and another viewer from Winston-Salem said a thin layer of white powder covered their trampoline.
Before 11 a.m., the National Weather Service in Raleigh tweeted, "We've had reports of snow in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Roxboro, Lexington, and even a coating of snow in Star, as far south as Montgomery County."
With temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s, impact to roads is unlikely, and the snow will mainly accumulate on elevated surfaces like cars, grass and outdoor lawn furniture.
Saturday will be a partly to mostly cloudy, windy and colder day with highs in the low to mid 40s. According to WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood, winds could gust up to 30 mph.
Some sprinkles are possible in the Triangle later in the day, but it won't be a washout of an afternoon. Some wet snowflakes could fall in the Triangle, but we won't see many.
Sunday will be a sunny day with a milder high around 50 degrees, which is normal for mid-January.
Looking ahead to the work week, Monday and Tuesday will be cooler days, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, while Wednesday and Thursday will be warmer, with highs in the mid 50s.
The greatest chance for more rain comes later next week, by Thursday or Friday.
