Undaunted by naysayers who insisted that it was impossible to make a meringue with a filling, Maria Umana began fashioning them two years ago in McLean, Virginia. Her Sweet Whispers are crisp, yet airy little cookies with key lime, passion fruit, blackberry or raspberry preserves tucked inside; more flavors are on the way. They are excellent to serve with summer fruit desserts.
