Just four miles from this pretty community which boasts a fine winery is Hanging Rock State Park. It is part of an ancient mountain range called the Sauratown Mountains.
You won't find any peaks as tall as Mount Mitchell around here but at 2,572 feet Moore's Knob is still quite impressive.
Hanging Rock is rich in hardwoods. That's one of the many reasons it is a popular autumn destination. You will also find 18 miles of hiking trails on nearly 7,000 acres of park land.
Hanging Rock is great for family camping. They have more than 70 campsites for tents and trailers. Washhouses have hot showers. At last check the vacation cabins here were still being renovated.
Great fishing is found here. Bass and bream are plentiful. You will also find some beautiful cascading waterfalls and after the rain we're expecting today there should be quite an impressive flow.
Hanging Rock State Park is located in Stokes County. It's 30 miles north of Winston-Salem. You'll love it!
