Day 36 of our 100 Days of Fitness campaign. I haven't written in a while. I've got a couple of headlines:

Newsman Attacked by Jumbo Burrito

Holiday Parties Threaten Leslie's Nutrition Plan

Warning! Unless you are incredibly famished don't even think about ordering the jumbo burrito at Mucho Mexico in Smithfield. This burrito is very tasty but it's about the size of a tractor trailer. After finishing a series of Christmas shows at Johnston County Community College Cindy and I decided to enjoy some Mexican cuisine. I wanted something a little bigger than the ordinary burrito and I sure got it! I had to quit halfway through. I heard Coach Tara Wind's  chiding voice inside my head.

Another test is holiday parties. There are just too many great goodies this time of year. Pimento cheese spreads. Chicken salad sandwiches. Chocolate cheese cake. I tried my best to eat moderately over the weekend but it was a challenge. Tara gave me the following tips for holiday parties:

  • Get in a good workout the day of the party! Burn off some extra calories but you will also make better choices.
  • Stay hydrated - sip on water throughout the day.
  • Eat healthy leading up to party - don't skip meals in an effort to 'save' for the party.
  • Allow yourself some treats but in moderation and watch your portion sizes.

Okay. Here's my workout this week. I'll do the cardio and strength intervals today beginning with the row machine. Tomorrow it's a 60 minute cardio workout on the treadmill and elliptical machine. Wednesday Tara will put me through a 50 minute group of functional exercises including core and balance training, Thursday I'll take a bit of a break and do just 30 minutes of steady cardio work on the treadmill. Friday, it's Tara's new 5-4-3-2-1 workout. Here’s how Tara explains it:

  • 5 minutes stairs
  • 4 minutes run
  • 3 minutes elliptical
  • 2 minutes row
  • 1 minute high plank with knees to chest (core)

Repeat 3-4 times.

Feel free to send me a sympathy card! Actually I am really enjoying this campaign a lot!  Want to join me?
