Best festival poll

Posted Updated

It's an interesting battle: kilts versus crabs as we head into the home stretch of the latest Best of Carolina survey. As of this morning the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games were gaining ground on The North Carolina Seafood Festival in the WRAL poll to determine the favorite festival statewide.

The Highland Games are steeped in more than 50 years of tradition in the picturesque setting of MacRae Meadows at Linville. It's a colorful four day festival filled with marching pipe bands, burly athletes tossing cabers, kilted cousins, marathon runners, talented dancers, and speedy sheepdogs every July.

The NC Seafood Festival celebrates its 22nd anniversary next month in Morehead City with delicious food, fireworks, boat shows and arts crafts. This festival gives patrons a chance to learn how to cook some savory seafood dishes from area chefs.

Oxford’s Hot Sauce Contest and Mule Days in Benson are also getting a lot of support in the survey and both are certainly within striking distance. We’ll pull the plug on the voting tomorrow morning at 9:00 and declare a winner.

Call your family. Tell your friends. Shout it from the rooftop. It's time to vote for North Carolina's favorite festival.

By the way, we will announce the winners of the Great Trips contest next week.
