Year of the Reds
It’s not too late to see some brilliant fall colors in the North Carolina mountains.  I spent five days roaming the back roads and I would say this week and weekend might be your best bet.  I encountered a treasure trove  of color last week in spite of the drought.

Please check out my slide show edited by Nathan Clendenin.  It will give you an idea of some of the fine foliage you will enjoy.

My travels included the Blue Ridge Parkway, some back roads in Alleghany and Ashe counties and the South Mountains in Burke County near Morganton.

WRAL colleague John Harris just returned from Roan Mountain near the Tennessee line and he said the colors were spectacular there as well.

What are you hearing and seeing from those glorious Tar Heel hills?
