Weekend Getaway: NC Zoo Earth Day

We're going to gas her up and go to the zoo this weekend. The NC Zoological Park near Asheboro is our Tar Heel Traveler Weekend Getaway destination.

The Zoo is putting on a Saturday and Sunday Earth Day Celebration. The highlights include hybrid cars and alternative fuels. Other events include a scavenger hunt, bowling with rhinos and a tree seedling giveaway. If that's not enough to entice you how about a personal appearance by Mother Earth herself. And if that doesn't do the trick the zoo itself should be enough to compel you to make the trip. Remember, the Zoo's 36 foot Endangered Species Carousel open is now open.

The weather could be a little tricky on Saturday. We may want to go early and avoid the storms. Sunday's weather looks sunnier. We certainly need the rain.
