I'm going to tough it out at the gas pump this weekend and roll west for five hours to Brevard. The cool mountain air will feel so good and there are so many things to do in the Land of Waterfalls. Try Sliding Rock. Take a look at the photo to the left You'll love Sliding Rock. It'll make you feel like a kid again. There are 250 waterfalls in Transylvania County which gets its name, according to my weather buddy Elizabeth Gardner, from Latin trans for "across" and sylva for "woods." Elizabeth says many of the falls are easily accessible including Looking Glass Falls. You can see it from Highway 276 and easily walk down to the pool below it. I'll think we'll rough it this weekend. Davidson River Campground has many sites that are right on the river. Very nice camping! But if you want to pamper yourself there are several nice inns on Main Street in Brevard including the Red House Inn. Elizabeth recommends eating at Hob Nob on Main Street or Mexican at El Chapala closer to the campground. It’s just your standard Mexican though…nothing really special but good. You can't lose in Brevard. Hiking in the Pisgah National Forest is awesome. There is also fishing, backpacking, horseback riding, rock climbing and even square dancing. Plus, I'd like to get a little culture this weekend at the wonderful Brevard Music Center. I hear the famous conductor Keith Lockhart will be in town there this weekend. See you in the Land of Waterfalls.
