Weekend Getaway: Valle Crucis

Here's hoping I will see you in Buies Creek this weekend. I'll be performing Celtic music with my group Lorica for Campbell University's homecoming. It'll be a great time, I'm sure. However, if you're still itching to see the mountain leaves let me recommend Valle Crucis between Boone and Linville. Valle Crucis is clearly one of the loveliest spots on the Tar Heel landscape. An added bonus this weekend is a country fair Saturday featuring 135 top notch craft booths, fresh apple cider, apple butter and barbecue at the historic Valle Crucis Conference Center on Highway 194. Town's people have had 28 years to get this festival right and it is outstanding. Be sure to check out the Mast General Store. Your accomodation options include the Mast Farm Inn, the Taylor House (which Elizabeth Gardner highly recommends), the Baird House or the Alta Vista Bed & Breakfast.
